Bereavement Information

VNA-Hospice of Southern Carroll County & Vicinity, Inc. offers bereavement services to anyone in the community who has suffered a loss. Grief support groups are offered throughout the year at no charge and are facilitated by trained bereavement personnel. Please call 569-2729 x 263 or send an email to bjohn@vnahospice.net for further details.

For the families of deceased patients, the bereavement coordinator and volunteers maintain contact for at least a year in the form of phone calls, visits or notes. Additionally, a special Memorial Service is held annually for family members and friends to memorialize deceased patients.

At least once a year, a special gathering, free and open to the public is held called Getting Through the Holidays. However, if one is unable to attend this event, the bereavement coordinator will be glad to talk to anyone on an individual basis.

Additionally, Hospice sponsors The Tree of Memories in December. Located in five different towns throughout the areas served by the VNA-Hospice, the opportunity to remember the lives of family, friends and neighbors is given in the placing of an inscribed porcelain dove on one of the lighted trees. The doves will stay on the tree until after the holiday and then given to the family.

Occasionally it may become necessary to refer the bereaved to other organizations or agencies to assist with specific issues. We will endeavor in any way possible to help one find the support needed to get through these life-changing events.

VNA-Hospice maintains a lending library and a bibliography for the community that may be useful in the healing journey. Please feel free to visit during our regular business hours.
